|A Great Review/Overview of 50,
Think it is a good 5 star book and even the lowest rating at the time of this review, a 2 rating, is not as accurate as it professes. There is indeed a general timeline in this book. There is even printed on each page a timeline starting with Felix Nadar born in 1820 (page 15) concluding with Wolfgang Tillmans born in 1968 (page 167). To prove a point on page 97, about half way through we have Robert Doisneau whom was born in 1912. I see a chronological timeline being presented here of photographers.
I agree that not all of the photographers are well known, nor are any the best. The best at any rate would be highly subjective. Some people love Steve McCurry, others won’t. Some will like Paul Nicklen and some wont.
I think that perhaps more modern photographers and mainstream photographers could add to the book, or genres may enrich it in a new way, but as is – it does a great job visually introducing the works of 50 different photographers. If you turn to the index, or table of contents and already know all of the details of these 50 people – you may want to look further afield. After 23 years of shooting, three certificates in photography, and lots of reading I could get a lot from this book from purely the intrinsic interest I have.
You should decide. I think it’s a great reference for photographers that like to read in the field.
